Non-university teachers in the Valencian Community will begin an indefinite strike from 11 May following a vote organised by the STEPV, UGT and CCOO unions.

The decision was confirmed during a large online assembly on 29 April, which reached the platform’s limit of 1,000 participants. In a prior survey of 9,817 teachers from across the region, 38.05% supported starting the strike on 11 May, while 23.21% favoured delaying it until 25 May.

The dispute centres on pay, working conditions and investment in educational infrastructure. A first round of formal talks on 16 April ended without agreement. The Education Department said it could not propose a salary increase due to overspending under the current regional budget.

Unions described that response as “deceitful” and “disrespectful”, accusing the administration of refusing genuine negotiations. On 24 April, five teaching unions formally requested a meeting with regional president Juanfran Pérez Llorca in an effort to restart meaningful dialogue.
