Five bodies recovered at sea by the cruise ship Sapphire Princess have arrived at the Port of Cartagena.
The vessel located the bodies on Wednesday night, around 140 miles east of Cabo de Palos. They were brought on board and transported to Cartagena, where the ship docked earlier this morning.
The Government Delegation has confirmed that an investigation is under way to clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Officials have not released further details about the identities of the deceased.
Authorities have also stated that it cannot yet be confirmed whether the five are linked to a migrant boat that was rescued by a French vessel on Monday. Five people were found on that drifting boat, three of whom had died. Of the two survivors, one has been arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and facilitating irregular immigration.
