Taxi associations across the Valencian Community have agreed to hold weekly protests in Alicante, Valencia and Castellón, citing what they describe as growing intrusion by VTC vehicles and a lack of effective action from the regional government.

Demonstrations are scheduled for 29 April, 7 May and 15 May. In a joint statement, the organisations said the Conselleria of Infrastructure has delayed closing a regulatory gap since spring 2025, when it promised to approve a decree law on mobility.

The sector has also reported recent violent altercations between VTC and taxi drivers in several parts of the region. Representatives claim there are increasing numbers of so-called “black vehicles” operating in urban areas, while associations have received no information about new concessions or the requirements being applied.

According to the taxi groups, more than 800 VTC licences were granted in the past year, with over 5,000 applications still pending. They say more than 9,000 taxi-driving families feel their future is at risk and insist they will continue campaigning for stronger regulation.
