A fire at a residential building in Torrevieja on Tuesday evening prompted the evacuation of residents after flames spread from a first-floor balcony. The incident happened at around 19:33 on Avenida de la Purísima, with smoke visible across much of the town.

The blaze started in a flat within a five-storey block, increasing the risk of it spreading to upper floors and communal areas. Firefighters from the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium were mobilised after receiving reports of heavy smoke and flames affecting the building’s façade.

Crews activated a precautionary evacuation while they tackled the fire. The operation included a command unit, a heavy urban pump and a turntable ladder, staffed by a sergeant, a corporal and six firefighters from the Vega Sur station. Local Police sealed off the area and a SAMU ambulance attended as a precaution.

The fire was brought under control without any reported injuries. However, authorities expect there to be significant material damage to the affected property and part of the façade. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed and will be investigated once emergency work has concluded.
