Torrevieja City Council has presented six new eurotaxis which are now operating across the municipality, strengthening urban transport and improving accessibility for people with reduced mobility. The presentation took place in Plaza Encarnación Puchol in La Mata, attended by Mayor Eduardo Dolón and Councillor for Transport Antonio Vidal.

The six vehicles form part of a wider expansion of the local taxi service. A further ten licences are expected to be added in the coming months – eight to be awarded shortly and two currently in process – bringing the total number of new licences to 16.

The new eurotaxis are fully adapted for wheelchair users and meet universal accessibility standards. They can carry six, seven or nine passengers, increasing flexibility and improving coverage across the municipality.

Councillor Vidal said the measure responds to a long-standing need in what he described as an essential public service. The Mayor added that increasing the number of licences would help address taxi shortages during busy periods of the year, particularly when tourist demand is high. The council said the initiative has been developed in coordination with the local taxi sector to ensure balanced service throughout the year.
