A Local Police officer has been injured in Guardamar del Segura after a minor was detected riding an electric scooter at a reported speed of 87 kilometres per hour.
According to police, officers intervened after spotting the teenager travelling in a reckless manner. When they attempted to intercept him, the rider allegedly collided with one of the officers, knocking him to the ground and causing injuries. The officer received medical attention and is now said to be out of danger.
Police have stated that the incident may constitute a criminal offence of assaulting an officer, in addition to traffic safety violations.
In a statement on social media, Local Police reminded the public that irresponsible use of personal mobility vehicles puts everyone at risk. Officers said they will continue working to ensure safety and coexistence on the town’s streets, adding that there will be zero tolerance for behaviour that endangers residents or police.
