Families of 40 pupils at CEIP Heredades in Almoradí have protested outside the Town Hall after the Generalitat confirmed it will withdraw school transport and dining services for children living in the town centre from the 2026–2027 academic year.

Around 100 people attended the demonstration on Monday, reading a manifesto and warning that the loss of both services would make the school “unviable”. They say many families rely on the bus and dining provision to balance work and family life, particularly those with children who have special educational needs, including pupils with autism and those in the UECO support unit.

Parents have expressed concern that the decision could force children to move to other, larger schools in Almoradí, breaking established friendships and support networks. They believe the measure could reduce enrolment at the small, single-form-entry school, which has 80 pupils, half of whom would be affected.

Mayor María Gómez, who attended the protest, has said a new school in the town will create opportunities and help reduce overcrowding. She has confirmed she will meet the regional education secretary to address the issue. The council has insisted there are no plans to close Heredades Primary, but families say they will continue campaigning if no solution is found.
