Four minors have been arrested in Elche after allegedly placing heavy objects on a section of railway line in an apparent attempt to derail trains.

Local Police said the incident took place on the Alicante–Murcia line in the Altabix area, near Camino de las Canteras. Officers were alerted to a group of young people on the tracks and located the suspects on a nearby bridge. The four attempted to flee but were intercepted following what the council described as rapid coordination between police units. One of the minors required medical attention after falling during the attempted escape.

After inspecting the scene, officers contacted Renfe control centres and Adif technicians. Rail officials described the situation as extremely serious, warning the objects could have caused a derailment, fractured a rail, or seriously damaged the underside of a train.

The council said swift police action prevented what could have been a major rail accident on a line regularly used by commuter trains carrying large numbers of passengers. The minors were taken to a police station and later released into the custody of their parents or legal guardians.
