Families of eleven pupils with special educational needs at School Number 15 in Torrevieja have said they have been waiting since last academic year for the Generalitat to appoint a dedicated support educator. The non-teaching post requires authorisation from several regional departments. Parents argue that without an educator providing daily physical and cognitive support, true inclusion is impossible.

The regional government has confirmed that the position has now been formally created and described its implementation as “imminent”, pending a final administrative step. However, families say the delay has already affected pupils with autism and rare conditions who require stable and continuous support.

There has also been disagreement between parents and local parent associations over how the issue has been handled. Representatives of the regional parents’ federation insist support has been provided and say the educator has already been assigned.

Separately, families are concerned about plans to open a new prefabricated School Number 16 to ease overcrowding. The move would see hundreds of pupils transferred with only two months of term remaining, and parents say school transport and continuity for vulnerable pupils have not been guaranteed.
