Three Irish cyclists have been seriously injured after being hit by a car on the CV-925 in Orihuela. The collision happened at around 6.30pm on Wednesday on the section of road that crosses the La Pedrera reservoir dam, close to the district of Torremendo, according to the Guardia Civil.

The injured men, aged 56, 59 and 62, were part of a larger group of six cyclists when the incident occurred. Emergency services, including Traffic Guardia Civil officers, Orihuela Local Police and several SAMU units, attended the scene. The three men were taken to the Vega Baja Regional Hospital. One remains in a very serious condition, while the other two are described as serious.

The CV-925 and the adjoining CV-950 have been the site of several serious and fatal accidents in recent years. The route is popular with foreign residents, walkers, cyclists and motorcyclists, and carries a high volume of traffic, particularly around the reservoir.

In late 2022, the Generalitat installed speed reducers along the dam stretch and created parking areas near the viewpoints in an effort to curb dangerous driving and informal motorcycle racing. A young motorcyclist died on the same stretch last year following a collision with a car.
