The Guardia Civil has arrested an insurance agent in the city of Murcia on suspicion of fraud and falsifying documents in connection with vehicle insurance policies.
The investigation, known as Operation Redargo, was launched after a series of irregularities were reported in the contracting of car insurance. A number of drivers discovered that their policies were not in force, even though they had paid for cover.
In many cases, those affected only realised there was a problem after being involved in a road traffic accident or during routine checks by officers. Investigators believe the suspect allegedly failed to activate valid policies and falsified related documentation.
The Guardia Civil has confirmed that the agent has been identified, located and detained. The investigation remains ongoing.
