Alicante province has been ranked among the areas with the highest wellbeing in Spain, according to the Spain Happy Index 2026 compiled by Sonneil Homes. Santa Pola leads the provincial table with 90.62 points, placing it among the top municipalities nationwide. Alicante city follows with 89.99 points, while Elche completes the top three with 89.40.

The study highlights strong performances across the Vega Baja, Marina Baixa, l’Alacantí and Vinalopó regions. Towns including Guardamar del Segura, Torrevieja, Benidorm, El Campello, Crevillent and Aspe are listed among the most highly rated in the country, reflecting the influence of climate, coastal location and access to services.

At national level, Málaga ranks as Spain’s happiest provincial capital with 91.36 points. It is followed by Almería and Ibiza, with Alicante city placed fourth overall. Other major cities performing well include Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid.

The index assesses more than 8,000 municipalities using indicators such as annual sunshine, rainfall, average temperature, wind conditions and proximity to hospitals, airports and schools. Sonneil Homes says the results show that environmental factors and access to infrastructure play a key role in overall quality of life.
