The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation after a man was seriously injured during a fight in Albatera on Friday afternoon. The victim was left with a screwdriver embedded in the left side of his head, close to his temple, and was taken to Elche General Hospital, where he remains in hospital.

The incident happened at around 18:30 in Calle Vicente Pardo. According to sources close to the investigation, a fight broke out between several people, during which the victim was attacked. A second person was also injured, suffering a deep cut to the cheek with muscle damage, believed to have been caused by a bladed weapon.

Local Police officers were first on the scene and provided initial first aid. Following standard protocol for penetrating injuries, they did not remove the object, instead stabilising it and controlling the bleeding until paramedics arrived. The injured man was later transferred by SAMU ambulance to hospital.

The alleged attacker has been arrested and the case has been passed to the judicial authorities. The investigation is being led by the Judicial Police in Pilar de la Horadada. The motive for the fight remains unclear.
