Two Lithuanian men aged 36 and 32 have been arrested in Torrevieja after being found in possession of a high-end vehicle worth more than 80,000 euros that had been stolen in the United Kingdom.

The Guardia Civil said officers were carrying out routine patrols on 5 March when they stopped the UK-registered car because it did not display the required national identifier. A closer inspection revealed the vehicle identification number had been tampered with and did not meet the manufacturer’s standards. Checks confirmed the car had been stolen in the UK last year.

Police also discovered that the passenger had initially identified himself using a passport whose photograph did not match his appearance. He was further found to be the subject of a European arrest warrant and had previous convictions linked to drug offences and organised crime.

After being taken to a local Guardia Civil station, the passenger attempted to flee, damaging a security barrier and injuring himself before officers caught him. Both men have been released on bail with precautionary measures pending trial.
