Orihuela Costa has lost its electric scooter rental service after Orihuela Town Hall issued a decree shutting down Hopp, which had operated locally for six years.
The closure reportedly stems from a paperwork error during a recent tender process, in which an administrative form was placed in the wrong envelope. Hopp says the council declined to allow the mistake to be corrected and instead terminated the service, a decision the company considers disproportionate given its track record.
Fifteen local jobs have been lost as a result. Residents are also left without what many regarded as a practical transport alternative in an area where public bus services are widely seen as limited.
Hopp operated a fully electric fleet and had funded local road safety classes for children. The company has launched a campaign calling on residents to contact the Mayor’s office and sign a petition urging the council to reverse its decision.
