Orihuela Local Police have arrested two men on suspicion of offences against public health after seizing 8.8 kilos of a substance believed to be cannabis during a traffic control in Playa Flamenca, Orihuela Costa.

The operation took place on 9 March in Calle Salvador Dalí, where officers stopped a German-registered BMW X6. Police said they detected a strong smell of marijuana from inside the vehicle, which led to a search of the occupants and an inspection of the car.

In the boot, officers found a sealed cardboard box concealed with polyurethane foam, apparently designed to hide its contents. Inside were several bags containing compressed plant material with the appearance of marijuana. The substance was later weighed at a pharmacy, confirming an approximate weight of 8.8 kilos. Officers also discovered a false Bulgarian identity card hidden inside a mobile phone case.

Both men were informed of their rights and later handed over, along with the seized items, to the Guardia Civil in Pilar de la Horadada, which has taken over the investigation. The vehicle was impounded as part of the operation.
