Two minors have been arrested in Elche after five mopeds were stolen within a fortnight, according to the National Police. Officers launched an investigation following several complaints reporting thefts carried out over a short period of time.

Specialist officers from the Elche police station identified a link between the incidents, noting they had taken place at night and in the same area. With support from the operational response unit, they set up surveillance in the suspected locations.

During one patrol, officers spotted two نوجوانs riding a moped who began driving recklessly and ran a red light after noticing police. They were stopped, and checks confirmed the vehicle had allegedly been stolen shortly beforehand.

Police later recovered all five stolen mopeds from vegetation near the Vinalopó river. The vehicles were returned to their owners, although damage to ignition wiring was reported. The two minors, who also had no driving licence, have been referred to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
