A 32-year-old man has been rescued by helicopter after being injured while hiking in the Sierra de las Moreras in Mazarrón.
The Region of Murcia’s Emergency Coordination Centre received a call at around 11.30am on Saturday reporting that the man had fallen in a hard-to-reach area. The caller provided coordinates, and initial reports said he had injured his ankle and shoulder in steep terrain inaccessible to vehicles.
Civil Protection and Local Police in Mazarrón were alerted, along with the 061 emergency health service. Once the location was confirmed, an air rescue helicopter from the Directorate General for Citizen Security and Emergencies was deployed, carrying a specialist rescue team.
After being stabilised by a 061 mobile emergency unit, the injured man was transferred to a Red Cross ambulance and taken to the Rafael Méndez Hospital in Lorca. He was treated for multiple injuries.
