The Guardia Civil has dismantled a criminal group in Mazarrón, Murcia, which was allegedly cultivating large quantities of cannabis for distribution to other criminal networks. The operation, codenamed ‘Tunama’, resulted in the arrest of three members of the same family.

Officers discovered an indoor greenhouse inside an industrial unit containing 1,106 cannabis plants in the flowering stage. The site was equipped with sophisticated lighting, heating, irrigation and ventilation systems designed to maximise production.

The investigation began in January after information from the public alerted officers to a possible large-scale plantation. Although no commercial activity was registered at the premises, the building had extensive security measures and unusually high electricity consumption.

Investigators also uncovered a fraudulent and highly sophisticated connection to the electricity grid. The three suspects have been arrested on suspicion of membership of a criminal group, offences against public health and electricity fraud.
