Storm Regina has delivered up to 30 litres per square metre across the Vega Baja, with the heaviest rainfall recorded along the coast. According to AVAMET and Proyecto Mastral, nearly 30 litres fell in San Luis in Torrevieja and in Pinar de Campoverde, Pilar de la Horadada. Guardamar del Segura and Torre de la Horadada also recorded more than 26 litres.

Rainfall was lighter inland, with around 10 litres measured in La Murada, but most of the district received what meteorologists described as a steady and beneficial downpour. Incidents were limited, although there was some water accumulation on the road linking La Zenia shopping centre with Villamartín in Orihuela Costa.

In Torrevieja, the rain once again caused the saturation of the Hombre del Mar wastewater pumping station. Thousands of cubic metres of sewage mixed with rainwater were discharged into the sea near the Levante breakwater after the system was unable to cope with the combined flow from around 40,000 homes and stormwater runoff.

Plans to renovate the pumping station had been included in the port redevelopment project, but the council withdrew from the scheme. The regional sanitation authority is now expected to oversee the investment, estimated at more than 15 million euros. Earlier in the week, the storm had also brought haze and poor air quality, which improved following the rainfall.
