Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, has activated a yellow weather warning for heavy rain across almost the whole of the Valencia region on Thursday 5 March.
Forecasters say rainfall could reach 20 litres per square metre in one hour and up to 60 litres per square metre over 12 hours. The warning applies to all areas except the south of Alicante province.
In Alicante, the alert covers the northern coast from 4am until 9pm. In Valencia province, both the north and south coastal areas and inland zones are included during the same period. In Castellón, the yellow warning runs from 7am until midnight.
Aemet has warned that showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms and muddy rain. Skies are expected to remain overcast throughout the day, with maximum temperatures falling across the region.
