Residents and visitors in Torrevieja will receive an ES-Alert message on their mobile phones at 9am this morning as part of the official “Torrevieja 2026” earthquake and tsunami drill.

The exercise, coordinated by the Valencian Government, will trigger a public alert confirming that the situation is only a simulation. Authorities have stressed that it is not a real emergency and there is no cause for alarm.

Operational activities and precautionary evacuations will take place at three locations: the International Auditorium, CEIP Nuestra Señora del Rosario primary school and the Aquopolis water park. The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has said the aim is to improve coordination between emergency services and strengthen response capacity in the event of seismic or tsunami risks.

ES-Alert forms part of Spain’s National Alert Network. It sends real-time emergency messages to mobile phones in affected areas and can emit a loud sound or vibration, even if devices are on silent or in do not disturb mode. No app download is required.
