The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has met residents of the Torresal neighbourhood to present plans for the imminent start of refurbishment works on six residential buildings included in the Barrios Programme. The project aims to resolve structural problems and significantly improve energy performance.

The works have been awarded for 485,881 euros and are financed through Next Generation EU funds, via the Ministry of Housing and the Generalitat Valenciana, with additional support from the local council. Construction is scheduled to begin next week.

Planned structural measures include reinforcing a block affected by settlement, injecting resins to compact the ground, repairing cracked load-bearing walls and strengthening the flat roof to allow for future solar panels. Damaged overhanging slab edges will also be repaired.

Energy upgrades are expected to deliver efficiency improvements of between 45% and 60%. These include installing solar panels, adding 100 mm XPS thermal insulation and replacing water heaters with 100-litre aerothermal systems. The scheme forms part of a wider 8.9 million euro investment in Torrevieja under the 2021–2026 Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
