More than 350 personnel will take part in “Torrevieja 2026”, the most ambitious emergency drill ever organised in the city and one of the largest in the Valencian Community.

The exercise, coordinated by the Generalitat Valenciana, will take place on Wednesday 4 March. It will simulate a major earthquake with a risk of tsunami along the Alicante coast. The City Council will activate its Municipal Territorial Emergency Plan and the CECOPAL coordination centre, while residents will receive an ES-ALERT message on their mobile phones to prevent unnecessary alarm.

Evacuations will be carried out at three main locations: the International Auditorium of Torrevieja, CEIP Nuestra Señora del Rosario and Aquópolis Torrevieja. Basic intervention, security, medical, damage assessment, shelter and assistance units will be deployed.

The operation will involve Local Police, Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, SAMU, the Red Cross, provincial fire brigades from Alicante, Valencia and Castellón, SPEIS units and forest brigades, alongside helicopters, a seaplane and drones. The drill will conclude at 12:30 with a debrief at the International Auditorium, aimed at improving coordination and public safety in the event of a real seismic emergency.
