Orihuela Town Hall has begun a comprehensive refurbishment of Barranco Rubio street in Orihuela Costa, aimed at improving accessibility and enhancing the appearance of the seafront environment. The mayor, Pepe Vegara, visited the site with councillors for Infrastructure and the Coast to review progress.

The project includes the installation of 360 linear metres of kerbing and more than 600 square metres of paving, along with new street furniture such as bollards, benches and litter bins. A new access ramp to the public lift serving the beach will also be built, and pedestrian crossings will be adapted to meet current accessibility standards.

The council said the scheme addresses long-standing concerns from residents and will improve connections with neighbouring streets and access to the promenade. Further works on the seafront will include replacing bollards, installing new benches and improving access near the Miraver building, close to the lift linking Campoamor’s upper area with the beach.

Under the municipal maintenance service taken over by ECOPLAN Servicios in July 2025, 529 work reports were logged in the first months of operation. Of those, 458 have already been completed, with the remainder in progress or awaiting materials.
