Almoradí’s Local Police have launched a specific speed control campaign aimed at reducing traffic accidents linked to excessive speed and improving both real and perceived safety among residents.

The initiative is built around three main areas of action. Officers will begin with a full review of speed limit signage across the municipality, ensuring signs are clear, visible and appropriate for each road. Preventive speed checks using mobile radar units will also be introduced at strategic locations, particularly at main entry points to the town and on roads with heavier traffic.

In addition, police will collect and analyse technical data to assess possible improvements to infrastructure and traffic systems that could strengthen road safety. Officers have highlighted the stark difference speed makes in urban collisions: at 80 km/h, the likelihood of a pedestrian dying is almost 100 per cent, while at 30 km/h the risk falls to around 10 per cent. They also warn that braking distances increase exponentially with speed, reducing reaction time and increasing the severity of any impact.

The Town Hall and Local Police are urging drivers to respect speed limits, stressing that doing so is not just about obeying the law, but about protecting lives and keeping Almoradí’s streets safe.
