Torrevieja Council approved the partial reopening of a new section of the Levante pier promenade on Tuesday, as work continues on its major refurbishment. Around 700 metres of the total 1,247-metre project are now accessible, including a newly opened 250-metre stretch from the Bella Lola viewpoint towards the lighthouse.

The €6.5 million contract, awarded to CHM, is expected to be fully completed by the end of March, shortly before Easter. The council said the newly opened area qualifies as a fully functional section, with independent access points and all necessary features for public use.

The project was originally due to finish last July, before being postponed several times. The latest delay followed the discovery of bacteria affecting the stainless steel handrails, which required the production and installation of a completely new set for the full 1,200 metres.

The refurbishment includes new technological wood-effect decking, upgraded stainless steel railings, improved LED lighting funded by more than €1 million in EU Next Generation funds, and the replacement of the former sea wall with a high-performance concrete bench. The Levante promenade, first developed in 1999, remains one of the city’s most distinctive seafront landmarks.
