The National Police have dismantled a criminal group accused of carrying out a series of break-ins at gambling arcades across the Region of Murcia and Alicante province, including one incident in La Campaneta, near Orihuela.

Investigators say the group stole more than 20,000 euros and caused significant damage to gaming machines. The inquiry began last year after officers received information about coordinated thefts in venues in Molina de Segura and Murcia.

Police say the gang used the so-called “stacker” method. This involves repeatedly inserting banknotes into a machine, cashing out tickets without placing bets, and reintroducing the money to artificially increase the amount stored inside. The machine is then manipulated with a metal tool to access the cash box, which contains the venue’s money.

Officers say the group had clearly defined roles, from planning and recruiting members to forcing open cash boxes and acting as getaway drivers. Four people have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated theft and membership of a criminal organisation. They have appeared before a judge, and the investigation remains ongoing.
