Police have arrested two people following the theft of gold jewellery and high-value watches from an elderly man in Alicante. The items were valued at more than sixty-five thousand euros and were taken using a method known as an ‘affectionate theft’.

According to the National Police, the woman approached the victim in the street and struck up a conversation, claiming to feel unwell. After gaining his trust, she met him several times, eventually visiting his home. During a later visit, she allegedly distracted the man with affectionate behaviour and stole several pieces of gold jewellery and a collection of luxury watches.

The suspect is said to have fled the property in a vehicle driven by another person. After the victim reported the theft, officers identified the getaway car and linked the case to a similar earlier arrest in Benidorm.

A man and a woman, aged thirty and thirty-six, were later located and arrested in Benidorm. Both have been placed before the local investigating magistrates while enquiries continue.
