A boat caught fire yesterday at Cabo Roig harbour in Orihuela Costa. It was in dock at the slipway undergoing repairs. The blaze affected only this vessel and did not spread to other boats despite the materials and fuel on site. Firefighters were alerted at seven twenty and brought the blaze under control by eleven fourteen, with no injuries and only material damage.nnEmergency services from the Guardia Civil, the Local Police and the Provincial Fire Service attended the scene. A heavy urban pump was dispatched from Torrevieja, but by the time it arrived the blaze had already been extinguished with a portable extinguisher.nnMunicipal sources say two other people were injured in a June explosion at the same port. A thirty-five-year-old worker cleaning the bilge suffered severe burns and was flown by helicopter to Valencia’s La Fe hospital burn unit.nnSeparately, a few days later a fire broke out in the engine of a recreational boat moored at Marina Internacional, near Acequión beach in Torrevieja. Thick smoke was visible along the seafront as the hull materials fed the flames. Marina Internacional staff acted quickly to extinguish them, and Torrevieja firefighters and Local Police attended.
