Two minors stabbed each other on Torrevieja’s Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas, near a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, on Wednesday around two o’clock. The injured pupil, born in the Dominican Republic, has required surgery to remove a knife from his arm and is reported to be recovering well with no complications. The alleged attacker has been detained and handed to the Guardia Civil for custody, with the case being investigated by the Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police.

Both individuals are pupils at the Institute of Secondary Education Las Lagunas, located metres from the scene. Authorities say there is no indication this was school bullying. The suspect is due to be presented to the Public Prosecutor for Minors on Thursday.

Locals have seen a heightened Guardia Civil presence around several schools in the town in recent years, supported by Local Police patrols linked to educational centres. In November two thousand and twenty three, a large fight outside Las Lagunas attracted attention and prompted discussions on safety protocols. Investigations have noted that violence has sometimes been linked to gatherings known locally as quedadas, drawing in families of some students.

School leaders have urged parents to report aggression to authorities rather than taking action themselves. Officials emphasise the importance of preventing gang formation and addressing tensions early to keep streets safe.
