The City Council of Cartagena has announced a chemical emergency drill to be held in Alumbres this Thursday. The exercise is designed to test and improve the town’s capacity to respond to a potential real incident. It is due to start at 9:30 am.

During the drill, the emergency sirens will be activated. When the alarm sounds, residents are instructed to confine themselves to their homes and close doors and windows for the duration of the exercise. The drill’s objective is to teach people how to recognise the start and finish alerts in a chemical emergency: three siren signals of one minute, separated by five seconds of silence, followed by a final thirty-second signal.

To ensure the community understands the procedures, a briefing has been organised at the Local Social Centre in Alumbres this Wednesday at 7 pm. The session is delivered by the Directorate General of Emergencies of the Autonomous Community and will explain what residents should do and how the alerts work.
