A tragic incident occurred on Friday, 14th November, when a twenty-two year old man lost his life after a palm tree fell on his vehicle in Torrevieja, Alicante. The accident took place on the CV-905 road, right in front of a shopping centre. Emergency services, including the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Alicante and the Information and Coordination Centre for Emergencies, were notified at five oh seven in the afternoon.

Upon arrival, a unit from the SAMU and another from Basic Life Support were dispatched to the scene. Unfortunately, the medical team could only confirm the death of the young driver. Eyewitnesses reported that the palm tree fell directly onto the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Authorities indicated that strong winds might have prompted the tree’s collapse, which was already suffering from a pest known as the red palm weevil. Firefighters from the Torrevieja station responded, deploying a command unit, a heavy urban pump, and a rescue van, alongside a sergeant and six firefighters.

The local community mourns the tragic loss, highlighting the potential dangers posed by uncontrolled tree growth, especially during adverse weather conditions. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
