The town of Torrevieja is finalising the installation of festive lighting for the celebrations of La Purísima and Christmas. The local council has joined other cities in Spain in a trend towards decorative holiday lighting, making a significant investment of over four hundred and fifty thousand euros. This effort aims to draw in visitors to the city centre, where local shops and hospitality businesses will benefit from the enhanced visual appeal.

One of the first major events will be the lighting ceremony taking place on Saturday, the twenty-second of November, starting at six thirty in the evening at the Plaza de la Constitución. The event will feature the town’s newly appointed queen and her ladies, alongside the mayor, Eduardo Dolón, and festival councillor, Rosario Martínez Chazarra. The celebration will also include a DJ session before and after the ceremony, along with a performance by ‘Siempre Disco’.

The festive lighting will serve a dual purpose, as it will also incorporate elements from the La Purísima festivities, which will culminate in the final week of November and the early days of December. Significant areas of illumination include the pedestrian streets of the city centre, featuring large illuminated letters spelling out the city’s name, and a grand Christmas tree donated by the Scandinavian community, although it will be erected later in December.

In addition to the central displays, major avenues and key entry points into Torrevieja will receive robust lighting, while residential areas further afield will have less festive decor, featuring simpler garlands. Importantly, all lighting will utilise energy-saving shutdown systems.
