The Torrevieja Town Hall has given the green light to the environmental licence for the construction of a Bauhaus store in the La Hoya urban area. This decision also includes the approval of two supermarket licences, one for the distributor Consum. These facilities will be situated within a vast commercial area of one hundred thousand square metres, which is part of a larger urban development consisting of over seven thousand homes currently under construction in La Hoya. The locations will run parallel to the CV-905 motorway, positioned between San Luis and Jardín del Mar-Doña Inés.

This significant development had faced delays due to a legal challenge by Leroy Merlín, which operates two stores in Orihuela Costa. Leroy Merlín contested the initial licence granted in August the previous year and managed to have it revoked. They argued that the necessary public exposure period for the project had been bypassed. The court sided with Leroy Merlín, resulting in the suspension of approval until the appropriate procedures were followed. Now, Bauhaus has successfully obtained their licence and is poised to begin construction.

Bauhaus, Germany’s leading retailer in home improvement and garden supplies, originally received a major building licence from the Torrevieja Town Hall in August two thousand twenty-four for one of their shopping centres, with a projected area of eighteen thousand square metres on a forty thousand square metre plot in sector twenty – La Hoya. This area is currently being urbanised and is located near a new avenue and the roundabout access.

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, previously met with Bart Ginneberge from Bauhaus in September two thousand twenty-four, even before the licence was revoked. During this meeting, Dolón expressed his gratitude for choosing Torrevieja for a new establishment, highlighting its potential to create numerous direct and indirect jobs. The Torrevieja store will be the first Bauhaus outlet in the province of Alicante and adds to the company’s portfolio, which includes over two hundred and fifty stores across Europe, employing seventeen thousand people across a variety of countries.
