A tense situation unfolded on Thursday afternoon when a young woman climbed to the top of a pedestrian bridge over the AP-7 in Orihuela Costa, near the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre. Local police and a psychologist were dispatched to the scene in an effort to persuade her to come down. Fortunately, after some time, she agreed and was subsequently treated by medical personnel.

The incident did not go unnoticed, given its timing when the bridge and surrounding areas were particularly busy. By three o’clock in the afternoon, the situation was under control, and traffic was allowed to resume.

In light of this event, the Orihuela Local Police have highlighted their specific unit that collaborates with educational institutions to prevent risky behaviours among youths. They recommend that families remain alert to warning signs displayed by minors, supervise their digital surroundings, and communicate any concerns to educational centres or the police.

The bridge connects one of the main coastal routes and is in close proximity to another bridge near the IES Playa Flamenca, which serves over seven hundred students. This institution has previously faced challenges related to drugs, weapons, and violence, issues that gained attention following the tragic murder of fifteen-year-old student Cloe. The prosecution is calling for eight years of detention for her ex-boyfriend and another schoolmate, both of whom are minors.
