The Town Hall of Torrevieja has unanimously approved a motion during its ordinary plenary session on Monday, twenty-seven October, presented by Sandra Sánchez, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Popular Group. This motion aims to urge the Ministry of Ecological Transition to carry out various investments to support coastal regeneration. The proposal received backing from council members of the PSOE, VOX, and Sueña Torrevieja.

The motion calls for the Provincial Coastal Service to execute necessary repairs to address the damage caused by the recent DANA Alice storm, which has once again affected the beaches and coastline of the municipality. It also urges the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge to tender the defence works planned for the regeneration of Playa del Cura, modifying the current project to prevent the demolition of the historic defence structure, El Tintero.

Furthermore, the Town Hall is requesting that the General State Budget for two thousand and twenty-six includes funds dedicated to defence and coastal regeneration works on the beaches of Los Locos and Los Náufragos, as well as specific funding for improvement and rehabilitation actions for the Torrevieja coastline. Lastly, there is a call for the Directorate General of Coasts to assist in financing the urban renewal works for Playa de Los Locos, which the Town Hall plans to carry out in two thousand and twenty-six.

In recent years, the Town Hall of Torrevieja has made significant investments to enhance the coastal line, including the comprehensive renovation of the La Mata footpath and the upcoming adaptation of the promenade at Playa de Los Locos. These initiatives represent a total investment exceeding fifteen million euros, financed entirely through municipal resources due to a lack of collaboration from the Ministry, despite repeated requests from the local council for co-financing. The local government emphasises that all these actions must be complemented by beach regeneration projects, aiming to ensure a comprehensive and sustainable recovery of the Torrevieja coastline.
