Ryanair has unveiled plans to expand its winter programme for twenty twenty-five from Alicante by adding ten new routes. This move increases the total number of routes to seventy-nine, with new destinations including Bratislava, Linz, Salzburg, Bydgoszcz, Rzeszow, Cardiff, Aberdeen, Stockholm Västerås, Småland, and Lanzarote. The announcement was made during a conference on air connectivity on the Costa Blanca, led by the President of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Toni Pérez.

During the event, Ryanair’s spokesperson in Spain, Alejandra Ruiz, noted an increase in flight frequencies on twenty-nine popular routes, which will raise the airline’s winter capacity in Alicante by twelve per cent. The airline operates sixteen aircraft based at the airport, representing an investment of one billion six hundred million dollars and supporting over six thousand seven hundred local jobs.

Pérez highlighted the significance of air connectivity for the economic and tourist development of the Costa Blanca, emphasising that the airport has solidified its position as an essential infrastructure, not only for the province but for the Mediterranean region as a whole. In twenty twenty-four, the airport set a record with over eighteen million passengers, a sixteen per cent increase compared to the previous year.

The airport is expected to exceed twenty million travellers this year, with a projected capacity of over eight million seats for the winter season, a nine per cent increase from last year. The continual growth in routes and frequencies has positioned the airport as a primary access point for international tourists, particularly from the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Nordic countries, thus contributing to the province’s economic diversification.
