The tranquillity of Sunday in the Vega Baja region was interrupted by a minor earthquake. The National Geographic Institute reported a tremor with a magnitude of one point eight on the mbLg scale, which occurred at two eleven PM on Sunday, twenty-sixth October. The maximum intensity recorded was between II and III, indicating that the earthquake was felt by the population but caused no damage.
Residents of Benijófar and Ciudad Quesada, south of Rojales, experienced the shaking most noticeably, although it was also felt in nearby areas. Some locals expressed their surprise on social media, describing it as a single shake without any aftershocks.
Low-magnitude earthquakes like this one are relatively common in the province of Alicante, which is known for its moderate seismic activity due to its geological location. However, most of these tremors go unnoticed by the general population and are only detected by measurement instruments.
