Municipal services in Torrevieja have worked tirelessly to recover a dead bluefin tuna weighing three hundred and seventy-six kilograms. The massive fish was located in a rocky area on the Paseo de los Vientos in the Rocío del Mar urbanisation, close to the municipality of Orihuela.

The recovery operation commenced shortly before one o’clock on Monday afternoon after a call was made to emergency services. This prompted the activation of the Valencia Community Stranding Network, known as VARACOMVAL, coordinated by the Zoology Unit of the University of Valencia.

The Local Police’s Environmental Unit swiftly responded to the scene and informed the Department of the Environment. Subsequently, the personnel from Acciona, the municipal cleaning contractor responsible for beaches and coastal areas, began the extraction process and efficiently removed the tuna from the water within three hours.

This incident highlights the ongoing collaboration between local authorities and environmental agencies in responding to marine wildlife issues. Recovery operations like these are vital in maintaining the ecological balance along Torrevieja’s coastline.
