The Guardia Civil has detained a thirty-eight-year-old man following the seizure of more than twenty-two kilograms of cannabis during a traffic control on the AP-7 motorway in Orihuela. The traffic stop was initiated due to a speeding violation, which led to the discovery of suspicious packages inside the vehicle.

While conducting routine checks, officers observed a large box wrapped in transparent plastic in the back seats of the car and a similar package in the boot. Upon further inspection, they noted the driver’s nervous behaviour and the presence of a bag containing items that emitted a strong odour of cannabis.

The boxes were heavily sealed with multiple locks, requiring specialised tools for safe opening. Ultimately, the officers uncovered twenty-one vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis weighing a total of twenty-two point six five kilograms, as well as one thousand three hundred and forty euros in cash.

The vehicle was reportedly destined for an international location. The arrested individual faces charges related to drug trafficking and has since been released by the investigating court in Orihuela, with certain precautionary measures imposed.
