A recent investigation into two violent robberies that took place in July in La Manga, within the municipality of Cartagena, has led to the arrest of two suspects, one underage and the other aged twenty-seven. This operation, named ‘Kurmache’, commenced after the Guardia Civil became aware of attacks directed at two women walking along Gran Vía in La Manga del Mar Menor. The robberies occurred just minutes apart from each other.

In the first incident, the assailant approached an elderly woman who was out for a stroll with her daughter. He violently pulled the gold chain from her neck, causing both women to fall and sustain injuries. Following this theft, the perpetrator fled the scene, only to commit another robbery shortly afterwards, targeting another woman who was accompanied by her daughters and a pregnant daughter-in-law. In this case, violence was again used, resulting in injuries.

During his escape, the assailant encountered a relative of the second victim, who was also assaulted. After conducting the thefts, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle that was waiting for him nearby. In the course of the confrontation, the assailant lost personal items including a cap, beach shoes, a set of keys, and other belongings.

The Guardia Civil collected witness statements, and physical evidence, and reviewed security footage from nearby establishments, which were pivotal in identifying significant details regarding the getaway car. It became apparent that a young man, who is the son of the car’s owner, matched the physical description of the suspect. Furthermore, it was discovered that this young man, along with another individual, was staying at a hotel in La Manga del Mar Menor on the day of the robberies. The operation concluded with the arrest of the two suspects, who are facing charges for robbery with violence and intimidation.
