Firefighters from the Provincial Consortium stabilised a fire near the cemetery of Guardamar del Segura this morning. The blaze was detected at three seventeen and was declared stabilised shortly after eight twenty. Despite this, many resources remained in the area to ensure complete safety, as reported by the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters.

The fire affected forest vegetation and was fanned by winds. Initially, aerial support was requested but was later cancelled due to the favourable conditions that led to the fire’s stabilisation. Eyewitnesses reported seeing aerial units over the area, although they did not intervene directly.

A total of twenty-nine firefighters were dispatched to the scene from the Torrevieja, Almoradí, and Orihuela fire stations. This included five forest firefighters from the Generalitat, who brought three fire trucks and a personnel transport van among other materials. The fire originated in a forested area of Moncayo, just a few hundred metres from the military installations and a communications tower known as the ‘American Antenna’.

This is not the first time a wildfire has affected this area near the urban centre of Guardamar del Segura. A similar incident occurred three years ago, in late August two thousand twenty-two. The mayor, José Luis Sáez, noted that evidence suggests the fire may have been intentionally set, although this remains unverified.
