In a dramatic rescue, local police in Cartagena saved the life of a two-year-old boy on Wednesday afternoon. The child was found inside a vehicle parked in the scorching sun at a supermarket in Cabo de Palos while his mother was shopping. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the boy was unresponsive and, in a race against time, broke a window to pull him from the car.

Once freed, the child was taken into the supermarket to benefit from the cooler environment while waiting for medical assistance. According to José Ramón Llorca, the Councillor for Citizen Security, the police intervention proved crucial in preventing a potentially tragic outcome.

Officials later disclosed that the child was in critical condition when he was rescued but was admitted to the emergency department of Hospital Santa Lucía. Fortunately, he has since been treated and released.

The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into the incident, and the vehicle has been moved to the municipal impound. Cartagena’s Mayor, Noelia Arroyo, has proposed recognising the local police officers for their life-saving actions.
