On Tuesday, August the twenty-first, at around six thirty in the evening, a wall and gates that had blocked pedestrian movement for over four years on a sixty-metre section of the beachfront promenade in the Bella Vista I urbanisation were demolished. This small area, measuring just one hundred and forty square metres, had previously isolated two large urbanisation areas along the Orihuela coastline, forcing residents to take a detour of more than fifteen minutes to connect with neighbouring areas.

The Ayuntamiento de Orihuela, after a protracted process of compulsory land expropriation initiated in two thousand and twenty-one, successfully executed the opening of this passage. Mayor Pepe Vegara, alongside other officials, was present as the work commenced, emphasising the importance of the reopening for the local community and acknowledging the long and complicated legal process that led to this moment.

The mayor noted that the effort had required two years of meticulous planning to reach this point, which marks a significant milestone for Orihuela Costa. A group of around fifteen residents gathered to celebrate the opening, expressing their joy with applause as workers opened the pathway to the public. Local leaders have highlighted that this opening is a definitive resolution to a long-standing community demand for free pedestrian access.

The Ayuntamiento has allocated a budget for the improvement of the newly opened pathway area, ensuring continued accessibility for residents while addressing concerns regarding privacy due to the proximity of residential properties. Community representatives have thanked both the current and previous local government teams for their roles in making this long-awaited project a reality.
