The Torrevieja Council has initiated the procedure to establish a regulated parking system, announcing a public consultation regarding a future ordinance that will determine the conditions of the planned paid dissuasive parking network. Citizens have a period of twenty days to submit suggestions or initiatives for the future document, after which a draft of the ordinance will be prepared for further consultation.

The administration cites the need for more efficient management of public space due to the evolution of urban mobility in Torrevieja has made the adoption of rational parking measures essential. The proposed implementation of the regulated parking system aims to optimise road resources, improve vehicle rotation, reduce traffic congestion, and facilitate access to commercial areas and densely populated urban zones.

The plan includes the creation of dissuasive parking areas as a complementary tool to promote more sustainable mobility by encouraging rational use of private vehicles and transitioning towards alternative or shared modes of transport. To establish a suitable legal framework for these actions, the Council emphasises the necessity of developing a specific municipal ordinance to regulate these parking areas.

Amid substantial tourist occupation during August, with the population potentially tripling, Torrevieja has also taken steps to restrict circulation through low emission zones. This comes at a time when neighbouring municipalities have long introduced similar blue zones to manage parking rotation within urban centres. The Council has begun the process to cover twenty positions for mobility agents as part of its efforts.
