Emergency services in Torrevieja recovered the lifeless body of a young diver on Wednesday afternoon near Cala Redonda, an area close to Los Locos Beach. The alarm was raised around six thirty PM when a body was seen floating face down about eighty metres from the shore in this popular bathing spot. Authorities have confirmed that the individual showed no obvious signs of violence and was found wearing swimwear and diving equipment, including goggles.

The Generalitat’s Emergency Coordination Centre, known as CICU, reported that they did not intervene directly in the case. Video footage of the recovery operation depicted medical team members from the Department of Health assisting with two ambulances, alongside patrols from the Guardia Civil and the Local Police. Bystanders also participated in the rescue effort, showcasing community support.

This area is known for its picturesque cliffs and is a popular destination for divers and bathers, providing less crowded swimming locations compared to other beaches along the Torrevieja coastline. The coves are particularly favoured by younger individuals for activities such as cliff diving into the sea, making them a serene yet occasionally hazardous choice due to the rough sea conditions, especially when the easterly winds are strong. It is important to note that these waters, while excellent for snorkelling, lack lifeguard services, heightening the risks for bathers.
