The Council of Los Alcázares has made an urgent appeal to residents to participate in a significant protest on Wednesday, the thirteenth of August, at eight o’clock in the evening. This demonstration will take place in the parking area next to the local health centre, under the slogan ‘For a twenty-four hour health centre and against the medical waste incinerator’. This mobilization comes in response to serious community concerns regarding two key threats that directly impact the health, environment, and dignity of the municipality.

Currently, Los Alcázares does not have a twenty-four hour emergency medical service, forcing residents to travel outside the municipality for basic healthcare during the evenings, weekends, and holidays. This situation has persisted for years, as highlighted in a recent press release by the local government, which stated that it poses a considerable risk to a growing population, particularly vulnerable during the peak tourist season.

Additionally, the community faces the looming threat of a medical waste incinerator being installed in the municipality. Residents argue that such infrastructure would result in daily deliveries of tonnes of medical waste from across the Murcia Region, leading to serious environmental, health, and economic risks for a town that relies heavily on tourism and the quality of its natural surroundings.

The local government is urging citizens to stand against both the lack of emergency services and the potential incinerator, advocating for the health and well-being of their community. This protest aims to unite voices for change and demand essential services and protections for the residents of Los Alcázares.
