Pablo Ruz, the Mayor of Elche, has once again urged the Spanish Government to bolster police presence in the local area following the assault of a National Police officer. This incident occurred last weekend, leaving the off-duty officer injured and currently receiving treatment in intensive care. Mayor Ruz provided details of the attack, expressing his deep concern for the safety of the community.

Ruz indicated that the officer was brutally assaulted while outside of work. He noted that the recurrent nature of crime in the district, where approximately thirty per cent of offences are committed by repeat offenders, has raised alarms among local authorities.

The Mayor has already communicated these concerns to the sub-delegate of the Government, with intentions to reiterate this message. Ruz emphasised that the situation is untenable and called for the swift application of the law against those responsible for such crimes once they are identified and apprehended.
