The Torrevieja Local Government has recently approved two significant contracts amounting to over three million euros. The first contract, valued at one million seven hundred and seventy-five thousand euros, pertains to the creation of a low emissions zone. This project is financed by the Next Generation-EU funds and aims to alleviate the municipal budget by one hundred percent of eligible costs, excluding VAT. The measures intend to improve traffic control and accessibility for both pedestrians and non-polluting vehicles in the urban centre.

The second contract focuses on enhancing safe access routes for cyclists and pedestrians to local schools, specifically CEIP Acequión and CEIP Cuba. With a tender value of one million two hundred and forty-five thousand euros, this initiative aims to expand sidewalks and establish dedicated cycling lanes connecting schools to the low emissions zone, thereby encouraging environmentally friendly transport options for students.

Additionally, the approved contracts include provisions for the installation of surveillance systems to ensure compliance with low emissions regulations. A minimum of thirteen monitoring cameras will be positioned in key areas of the low emissions zone. These upgrades are expected to not only enhance mobility but also improve air quality in Torrevieja.

Moreover, the local government announced modifications for the access works to the Dique de Levante and the Muelle Mínguez. The modifications entail an eighteen point three percent increase in the project scope, resulting in a supplementary investment of four hundred and eighty-six thousand six hundred and sixty-six euros. This enhancement will replace the existing staircase with a large ramp, facilitating access to the leisure centre, and extending the deadline for the Muelle Mínguez rehabilitation works.
